About Tarangire
Tarangire National Park lies south of Arusha along the Tarangire River, which is the only permanent water for a long way in the dry season. When the surrounding country dries out, the animals come to the river, and elephant herds of several hundred are not unusual.
The park's other signature is the baobab: huge, ancient trees scattered across the grassland that give Tarangire a look unlike anywhere else on the route. It is the last park on our cross-border itineraries before the drive to Arusha.
